The cesarean rate is still 33%. That implies 1 in every 3 women giving birth in the US will give birth via cesarean. Evidence shows this is either a first time mom or repeat cesarean. I want to use my expertise to educate families on cesareans,why they are required and how to possibly avoid them. I also want to empower a mom who's had a cesarean before to go for that VBAC. According to ACOG, it's safest for mom and child to attempt a vaginal birth.
Also, unfortunately women of color, particularly African American women, are experiencing health disparities. According to the CDC black women are three to four times more likely to die from preventable pregnancy-related causes as their white counterparts. I'm sure you've heard something on news or saw something on social media about it. As a black woman, it is part my responsibility to not only continue to talk about the disparities, but to do my part to try and reduce those numbers as well.
